Cocky's Fight (Devils Rejects MC Book 6) Page 8

She makes a pinched face at me. “How the hell would I know?”

“Because you’re a fucking stalking crazy cunt. That’s why. Now tell me what you’ve done with them!” I roar at her raising my fist wanting to knock her teeth out. “Did you break into her apartment and steal her things? Do you wear her perfume and shoes while pretending to be her?”

“What shoes? What perfume?” She shakes her head back and forth quickly. “I didn’t take her stuff. I would never hurt Jimmy,” she cries, and I throw my hands up and pace the small room as Uno watches on.

“What could have happened to her?” I look at Uno and we both come to the same conclusion. “Jim,” we both snarl the name at the same time.

“I’ll call Terror and have him trace her cellphone,” Uno volunteers.

In the meantime, I call Hades and ask him what the hell should I do with Carmen. He says Boogeyman will take care of the cunt. I wanted to deal with her personally but finding Melissa and Jimmy is more important. They are all that matters to me. I can’t just sit still. I drive all over town. Everyone is looking for Melissa and Jimmy. I can’t reach my contact in Indiana who was supposed to be watching that bastard Jim either. I feel helpless and useless. When I get my hands on Jim, I will end him. If he has hurt them, I promise his end will not be a quick one.

My cellphone vibrates from the inner pocket of my cut as I walk into the Cherry Room. It’s Terror. “Got a hit on Melissa’s phone. The old carpet warehouse. Not far from the motel on the outer edge of town. Cupid and I will meet you there.”

I run back to the truck I borrowed from the garage and hit the gas. I’m the first to arrive. I park and pull my gun out of the glovebox. I don’t wait for backup. All that matters is getting to Melissa and making sure that her and the kid are okay. I find a side entrance with the lock broke and make my way inside.

The main floor is empty as far as I can tell from a quick sweep of the place, so I go up to the second floor where the offices once were and find them all locked and no sign of my woman or her son. I dial her phone, but it goes straight to voicemail. I hear movement on the first floor, but it is only Terror and Uno.

Then I hear Uno’s voice crack when he yells, “In here.” I know the scene must be bad. I rush toward the sound of his voice where he stands with tears running down his face, stricken with grief and heartache. He puts a hand to my chest to stop me, but I push past him. My beautiful Lissa is rocking in the corner covered in blood while brandishing a knife. Her teeth are chattering, and she has this blank stare masked on her face. The corners of her mouth are slit, dried with blood. Jim is dead at her feet on a mattress soaked with blood. I hold my hand out to her. “Come on, baby. I need you to tell me where Jim Jam is.” The mention of her son seems to snap her out of shock and a sob rips from her throat. I get her out of the small room and give her the shirt off my back.

The word motel leaves her mouth in a low whisper.

I look to Uno and I don’t even need to ask. He takes her into his arms and tells me he will take her to Amber. Cupid is the last on the scene and him and Terror will take care of disposing of Jim’s body and erasing any trace of what happened here. I gotta go get Jimmy.

  —––

I found little man scared but unharmed alone in a motel room. Cupid and MaryAnn are watching over him while Melissa recovers at home in bed from her injuries. Her wounds would raise too many questions if treated at the hospital so Amber has been coming over twice a day to tend to her.

Melissa hasn’t spoken much. She’s weak and locked away inside herself. I don’t need her to tell me what happened. Terror recovered her phone from the scene and there were videos of the vile things that monster subjected her to. Things I will never speak of because if I think about the torture my woman endured it makes me fly mad with an unstoppable rage. All that matters is that Melissa is safe and warm in my bed. Jimmy is okay too. And that monster Jim is dead, and his body will never be found. He will never harm her again. No one will. She has a long road to recovery, not only physically but mentally.

I am worried about her, but I know she is tough.

  Chapter 16

  —Melissa

  Two months later

“Shouldn’t you be living it up in Texas by now?” I look at Uno standing outside my front door holding a bouquet of flowers and he shoots me a faint smile.

“Just visiting. Had to come by and check in on you. Shawn said it would be okay?”

“He did?” My expression must show my surprise.

“He’s a good guy. He loves you.”

“Yeah, I know. Please come in.” I step aside so he can enter the house I share with Shawn. Things have been rough for us. He’s been so strong all the time for me. Not pushing me to get out of the bed on the days I have felt too depressed to do so all while suffering in silence and battling his own demons. It took some coaxing but eventually he told me about Carmen and how that made him feel so broken up inside. Like less of a man. All that coupled with the fact that he wasn’t here to stop Jim has taken a toll on my man. “Can I get you something to drink?”

“Take a beer if you have one.” Uno takes a seat on the couch.

I excuse myself to the kitchen to get his cold beer and to put the flowers in water. “Here you are.” I hand the bottle off to him and take a seat in the recliner on the opposite side of the room. “So how are things? Stephanie have her baby yet?”

“Two weeks old tomorrow. A boy. Has his mother’s temper.” We both laugh at that. “How are you really?”

“I have my good days and my bad, but Shawn has been so wonderful to me. We are both finally starting to heal. He told me how you were there, how you helped him with the Carmen situation and through my whole ordeal with Jim. I really appreciate you doing that. It means a lot to me—to both of us.”

“Don’t mention it. Shawn would have done the same for me. When push comes to shove, we are still brothers patched or not. I care about both of you and little man. I wanted to get him a little something for his birthday. I hope you don’t mind that I gave Shawn a card to give to him later at his party.”

“You could stick around and give it to him yourself.”

“Nah, sweetheart. I gotta get back on the road. Had some business to take care of in Drag Creek and just swung through here on my way home to Texas.”

He stands, and I go to see him out. He gives me a hug and a kiss on the cheek. “I want you to be happy, Melissa. I’ll be expecting an invitation to the wedding when you and Cocky say I do.”

“Think your old lady will like that?” I tease him.

  “She’ll be all right.”

“This summer. That’s when we’re getting married.” I look down at my left hand at the ring on my finger knowing that there is nothing I want more in this world than to marry Shawn.

“I’ll be here. Might even give you away.” At that statement I laugh.

  “I’ll hold you to it.”

“Looking forward to it. I’ll see you around. Take care of him, Melissa. I know he’s still hurting and that you are too.”

I bite my bottom lip and nod. “I promise.” I watch Uno walk down the sidewalk to his motorcycle. Shawn pulls up behind him. The two of them exchange words that I can’t hear but it makes me smile to see them on good terms. Uno roars off on his bike and Shawn walks up to me.

“You got everything ready for the party?”

“Yeah. MaryAnn decorated the clubhouse. Sara and Harley are bringing the cake. Amber and Shelly are taking care of the refreshments.”

“Good. That means we have time” he says, confusing me.

“Time for what?” I ask as we go inside.

“Time for this.” His lips come down on mine. Our sex life has been non-existent being neither of us were in a good place emotionally. Even when Shawn asked me to marry him, we didn’t sleep together. We have both been through a lot and to be honest I have been the one pushing for us to reconnect on a physical level. Shawn has been the one unable to move o
n from what Carmen attempted to do to him. I have been patient and letting him heal in his own time. But now that he is making the first move an taking the initiative, all bets are off.

I kiss him back pouring everything that I feel for him into the kiss, wanting him to know I am fully committed to him no matter what. Him and Jimmy are my world.

“I’m so sorry I have let you down. I know I’ve not been in a good place but that changes today.”

“You have nothing to be sorry for, Shawn. Nothing. Do you hear me? I love you and I would go through everything all over again a million times if it still led me here to you. You’re my man. The only man I will ever truly love and want. You. Only ever you.”

His mouth comes down on mine, his tongue thrusting deep in my mouth. I can feel his love, his devotion, his undying need to be with me.

“I’ll love you forever, you’re my favorite girl,” he tells me as he leads me to bed.

Fingers laced, mouths fused, we fall into bed to get started on our happily ever after.

  Epilogue

  —Cocky

There was a time in my life that I thought today would never happen. But it’s here. The day I make Melissa my wife. Her and the other old ladies have spent months planning every little detail from the color of my damn socks to the damn seasoning for the steaks we are serving. I wouldn’t expect anything less from them though. When they get together, they can make anything happen, including getting Stephanie and Uno here.

I expected their presence to be awkward and tense but surprisingly they have been welcomed. They were part of our family once upon a time and in a way they still are. Stephanie is still as big of a bitch as she ever was but that’s who she is. Though I gotta say when I see the love in her eyes for her son, I know that somewhere buried deep down inside the woman there is a heart that doesn’t only bleed black. When Melissa told me that Uno wanted to give her away, I thought she was joking.

But as I stand at the altar waiting for my bride to be and I see Uno decked out in a tux for the occasion with Melissa on his arm in her wedding gown I see that they were both serious. I can’t be mad at them. They have a bond. A friendship that most men wouldn’t like, but I know that any romantic feelings between them are long gone. I trust Melissa and as crazy and fucked up as it sounds, I trust Uno too. At the end of the day he has my back and I have his. Boogeyman is wearing his damn priest getup again. He is officiating the ceremony. Fucker uses any excuse to get dressed up to turn Shelly on with his kinky fuckery. I swear the bastard has some weird ass fantasy for every occasion.

Melissa and I have travelled a long hard road to get to where we are but the journey to today has been worthwhile. She’s my world. Her and Jimmy. Little man is standing next to me in a matching pair of jeans and leather cut. He wants to be just like me one day and I can only try to do my best to be a man worthy of the honor of being his dad and to the baby I plan on making with Melissa later tonight. I’ve waited long enough to get what I want and what I want is to add to our family. When I told her I wanted at least five more kids she laughed in my face, but I meant it. She’ll see when I keep her pregnant for the next few years.

Uno hands her off to me and I break tradition. Lifting her veil, I claim her lips as Boogeyman clears his throat and tries to break us apart. “I’ve not gotten to that part,” he complains, and everyone laughs.

“No but I have,” I reply.

Melissa looks at Boogeyman and says, “We both do.” He throws his note cards in the air as my woman kisses me again.

I don’t stop kissing her until I get her alone and under me.

I am still holding her hand when Axel returns to claim what should be his. There is only one problem, I don’t want to give him his life back. I’ve taken it and made it my own. – Abel

I sink down on the couch after my shower. Had fucking tree sap and pine needles all over me after cutting down that stupid fucking tree the old man said we needed for the Roadhouse. Which translates to the stupid fucking tree my mother wanted. Turning my phone over in my hands, I see on my girl’s social media she’s back in Drag Creek. She didn’t even text me. Ain’t that some bullshit. Pissed off and tired of this shit, I give her a call. It takes five rings before she even answers.

  “Hey,” she whispers sounding off.

“You coming here or am I coming to your folk’s place?”

Coralie lets out an exasperated sigh. “Why don’t we do lunch tomorrow?”

I put my phone on speaker and hold it out in front of me as my throat tickles. I heavily exhale through my nose. “I haven’t seen you in three Goddamn weeks. I don’t want to wait another day.” Coralie attends college on the other side of the state. Her parents have big dreams for her that don’t include biker trash like me.

I put a guy in a coma, but shit wasn’t even my fault. The dumbass fucking hit me first. It happened a fe
w months ago. I went to Coralie’s school to see her. There was some big party she wanted to attend or some shit for Halloween. Said she wanted the full college experience. Whatever the fuck that means. Anyway, she told me to meet her there. I walked into the place and it was like I stepped into some cheesy as fuck movie like my sister’s, Morgan and Harley enjoyed watching and torturing me and my little brother with growing up. Party was at a fraternity house. I was looking for Coralie and found her in the basement dancing with some preppy looking tool. He had his hands on her hips and shit.

I kept my cool. Tapped the bastard on the shoulder and said, “Thanks for standing in but I’m here now. Let a real man dance with his girl.” Coralie took a step back and had the nerve to glare at me like I was the one on the wrong. That should have been my sign to walk away but I didn’t.

The fucker looked at me and laughed. He turned to her and said, “Do you know this clown? I thought Halloween costumes were for kids.”

“The fuck did you just say?” I growled, clenching my fists at my sides.

“You heard me, man.” He shoved at my shoulders. “Why don’t you go back to the freakshow.” Then he punched me, landing a pathetic jab on my jaw.

I laughed at him and told him, “That was your one.”

I don’t remember much after that, but I know I fucked him up. Broke the bone of his pallet and knocked out a few teeth. He’s the son of a senator and his dad is pushing to lock me up. So far, my old man has managed to keep me out of jail and I know Texas is his way of making it go away. Well at least it gets me of the state and hopefully off the rich asshole’s radar.

“We should talk. I’ll come to you.”

“Fine,” I snap at her. Thinking about that shit at that party has me fired up again. Ending the call, I toss my cell phone onto the couch and sigh. Rubbing a hand through my hair, I walk to the fridge and grab a beer from the inside of the door. I know when I go to Texas if she doesn’t come with me we’re through.
